| 1991 | Town and Village of New Paltz purchase the Rail Trail with assistance of the Wallkill Valley Land Trust |

Bob Taylor (Wallkill Valley Land Trust) and Glenn Gidaly (Shingebiss Associates) investigate this project. They obtain a cost estimate for bridge construction and get conceptual approval from the landowners. |
| 2003 | The NYSDOT sponsored New Paltz Transportation-Land Use Project is launched. |
| 2004 | A Bicycle/Pedestrian Sub-Committee is formed as part of the Transportation-Land Use Project. |
| 2005 | The Bicycle/Pedestrian Sub-Committee recommends construction of a "Multi-Use Path" connecting the Rail Trail with the County Park (Fairgrounds). |
| 2006 | The DOT Transportation Enhancement Program could make this dream a reality. |
| November 2006 | The Bridge of Dreams grant is awarded! |
